How The Gyptians Treat Lyra's Life

Have you ever lived with someone your whole life, but suddenly go live with entirely new people? Lyra from the Golden compass went through the exact situation. The gyptians the people Lyra is staying with now, treat her very different than when she lived in Jordan college.Throughout the book the gyptians have treated Lyra like family, by feeding her, giving her a place to sleep, and caring for her. The gyptians also are very authentic and genuine with Lyra. Also, the gyptians consider her feelings and make her a priority at events and meetings. The While they both gyptians and Jordan college both do the essential, feed her, bath her, and take care of her. The gyptians treat her more like family then Jordan college. You know this because the gyptians are very cautious about letting her outside because they want to make sure she is safe. Throughout the book, the gyptians are always looking out for Lyra and monitoring her to make sure she is safe. The gyptians also take her feelings and ideas into consideration, for example, Lyra asked if she could go to the north, and the gyptians listened to what she wanted and finally let her go to the north. Unlike the gyptians, Jordan college does the complete opposite. While Lyra was staying with the people at Jordan college, they had an entirely different approach to taking care of her. They never really monitored Lyra or knew where she was at or going. The only people who ever looked after Lyra was the servants at Jordan college. For instance, Rodger and Lyra went into the basement where all of the past masters was buried and got intoxicated. The Master soon found both of them and commanded them to go back upstairs. But what if the master never saw them they could have done something crazy and got hurt, or even worse kidnapped. If the people of Jordan college were managing Lyra like the gyptians do this would have never even happened. For instance, the master never even bothered to ask Lyra if she was ok going to stay with someone else. Time after time after time Jordan college does not even think of the idea to ask Lyra if she ok with something. Another instance the scholars didn´t know to ask Lyra if she was ok with living with all men, or if anything was going wrong outside of the college. This is the opposite case when she is with the gyptians; the gyptians make sure everything that includes her, she is okay with. Not only did they do that, but they also made sure she felt welcomed when she came to stay with the gyptians. During the part of the book when Lyra went to the gyptians meeting with Ma Casta, the gyptians made sure to tell her everything and make sure she was ok with it, like going to the north, teaching her about the alethiometer, or telling her about her family.
