I have always liked to play games on the internet. I love the rush of scoring a goal, or catching a virtual touchdown. But reading this article I find myself agreeing with the parents and the school board on the topic of instituting a “Shut Down Your Screen Week”. If everyone in the school gets a taste of an unplugged life, then it can show them what they are missing and their life has a chance of getting better and more enjoyable. The reasons behind my opinion are because of what the internet can do to your social life, and academic life. I can identify with Connor, the boy in the toll on children article because of his distractions while doing homework. When I get home from school every day I like to take a minute to eat a snack and relax before I start on homework. However, most of the time that minute turns into an hour. I usually spend that time on the computer. And before I know it it’s already five o’clock and I need to get to work. But in a world like this, a lot of the time, my work involves getting connected to the internet and then I get to work but before long I’m thinking “a few minutes of distraction can’t hurt”, but it always ends up more than a few minutes and then I end up losing a lot of time. Every time I see a group of people who have their eyes glued to their phones I see how out of hand phone use is getting. One of the top causes of death in teen agers is car crashes, which are sometimes caused by texting and driving.
