Living in Poverty It’s the 21st Century, and the average person is making $7.25 per hour. Crazy, right? So, how can anyone afford insurance, electricity, food, shelter? It is becoming really difficult to live in the land of opportunities when all the money being brought in is barely enough for people to provide for themselves, let alone their family. People are falling ill, missing holidays with their loved ones, and having to worry about providing for their family all because the minimum wage is nowhere near the cost of living in the United States. A raise will not only be best for the average American, but will provide the country with an economic boom, decrease of government funded programs, and improvement of the overall morale of Americans. Families and individuals are struggling on how to provide the needs for each person. Making $15,000 a year is not a way to live. People should not have to struggle between choosing which necessities of life they have to go without this month. Children should not have to grow up hungry, no house, no heat. No one should have to do that, but when $7.50 an hour is what the minimum wage is set at, it’s nearly impossible for Americans to not have to. Raise the minimum wage, secure low income Americans.
