It will be very fascinating if everything always goes the way youngsters picture things; yet, they are absolutely forced to see the hardships of life at least one time in their life. In the Neil Gaiman story “How to Talk to Girls at Parties”, Vic and Enn are in a college party going through a series of experiences which lead them to regret their decision because of their young impulsive behavior. As well as John Updike story “A&P”, in which Sammy quits his job when his boss scolds three girls because they entered the store in bathing suits. He wants to demonstrate to the girls that he is on their side. Vic has in his mind that it is very easy for him to get any girl; however his young personality is soon going to lead him to a disaster. When Vic arrives at the party with Enn a girl opened the door and he asks for her name right away, after that he says: “that has to be the prettiest name he had ever heard”... “ what was worse that he said it like he meant it” (Gaiman 120). This means he is already flirting with a girl he does not even know, as the party goes on Vic become conscious of what error he has committed. Everything comes to a conclusion when Vic got out of the room, he was with the girl he met at the door; he was scare and crying, “he wiped his mouth [and says] she wasn’t a—[then] stopped” (Gaiman 126). After all the fun Vic thinks he had, his action teach him a new experience; he said “she wasn’t a” and “stopped” the reader can infer she was not a girl. The most probably thing Vic might do is to think twice before having too much fun; after that frustration he went through in the party, he probably does not want to see his friend Enn looking at him crying again.
