The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter franchise are both films that have made a huge impact on not only audiences, but the movie industry itself. The Lord of the Rings charts the adventure of the inhabitants of Middle Earth, a completely fictional world with incredible characters, and a language crafted by J.R. Tolkien. Harry Potter, written by J.K. Rowling, sets the plot of a wizard boy, whose main quest is to overcome the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort. As both these films are historically outstanding films, there is a great deal of similarities between the two, as well as reasons how, and why one out rules the other.

It is true though that J.K Rowling was able to influence people through books. The Harry Potter books, games, and of course, the fan fiction have a huge place in the pop culture today. In 1997, when author J.K. Rowling wrote the first book, she wrote “there wont be a child in our world that doesn’t know his name (qtd. in Milo, pp.1)”. And truth to be told, it is probably hard to find someone who doesn’t at least know who Harry Potter is. It is also crucial to know that J.K. Sure it was able to adapt and stay true to the novel, but there was nothing in it that set it a part from all the other films—more than the story itself. Take for example the Lord of the Rings, who was able to create this whole new world, by showing us landscapes and places that went beyond just one single place. The Harry Potter series on the other hand, doesn’t portray much outside the Hogwarts castle, which makes it quite boring to watch. The development between the movies might depend on the different directors. The Harry Potter films for example, has had a total of 4 different directors working on the series; Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates. It makes sense that there wouldn’t be one single director that would be directing eight movies about the same installment. But then there are advantages such as Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy that just clearly proves that no one could have done it as good as he
