Raymond’s Run Thesis In the story “Raymond’s Run,” the main character, Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker is also known as Squeaky is a determined person who loves to run, but she also cares for her brother, Raymond, and takes care of him. Squeaky is an exceptionally complex young lady who seems tough and angry. The author, Toni Bambara, supports this in the story with the following quote, “If anyone has to say anything about my brother, Raymond’s, big head, then you say it to me.” From this quote the reader can see that Squeaky sticks up for her brother, Raymond, when no one else is there to do it.

The story touches on things such as poverty, alcoholism, bullying, abuse, etc. It is an extremely eye-opening, humbling book that shows you that you can change your life around no matter how you were raised. This book is relatable to many people, including children and teenagers who are or may have gone through some of the same things that Jeannette and her siblings did. The theme that most resonated with me while reading the book was alcoholism. It is something that has been a part of my family life for a long time.

Louise decided to take Bruce to the doctors, very unsure of what he may be coming down with. When they arrived the the doctor, Bruce was diagnosed with Rubella.

Furthermore, in the book, she found a friend named Louisiana, who had a meltdown because the clerk at the Very Friendly Animal Shelter said her cat was dead. After Louisiana’s meltdown, her grandmother came up with a plan to rescue Louisiana’s cat. Although when they were executing the plan, instead of finding Louisiana’s feline, Archie, they find a dog named Bunny. They brought a cart, so Raymie and her friends do not have to carry the cat, but Louisiana sits in the cart with Bunny.

When her track coach shows her videos of world runners with prosthetic legs, Jessica has some hope of running again, Jessica changes from a hopeless girl to a confident runner. I guess it's commonly called the golden rule because it's the most important one. Your book, The Running Dream, implied the golden rule so strongly that it really opened my eyes to the fact that I haven't been following it to the best of my ability. The Running Dream was so intriguing and compelling that I found myself nearing the end of the book after only a few days of first starting to read it.
