“Don’t stop believin, Hold onto the feeling” famous song lyrics sang by a very well-known band, Journey. Debby Smoots is a wonderful person and as you will find out she loves her music and having a great time. On July 9, 1950 at Lawrence Memorial Charles and Helen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, named Debby. She grew up in Tonganoxie, Kansas with her 3 brothers, Dan, David, and Steve. Yes, she was the only girl. She said growing up with brothers was a good things at times, having them stick up for her, teach her things, and joke around a lot. Living in a house full of boys also had cons, being overprotective, being smelly all the time, and roughhousing. They got along most of the time and were always very close. They’re still all very close to this day. Her mother, Helen, was always a big inspiration to her and they went through a lot. When Debby was thirteen her father died of a heart attack. She was at her volleyball game when it happened at didn’t get the news till afterwards. It was a very hard time for her and her mom but with help from each other they got through it. …show more content…

She became a bus driver at Mclouth High School and has been driving a bus for about thirty-five years. A little down the road from when she started decided she wanted to be a para and work with a disabled girl in sixth grade. Through the years Debby and her got very close. She even did stuff outside of school with her. Debby loved her like her own child. Last year, Debby decided to quit her bus driving career but keep her para job. Her family could tell she missed the kids on her bus route but it was just too much. This year, at the age of sixty-seven, Debby retired and so did her husband, Rick. Debby misses her job and her little friend a lot but she enjoys her free time and being able to spend more time with her grandchildren. She likes to look back at the memories and pictures she got from her school
