Civil Rights Movement Essay The Civil Rights Movement was one of the most powerful statements in the history of the United States. The goal of this movement was for African Americans to gain the same citizenship rights as white people had at this point in history. African Americans used many different ways to protest and fight for the rights they deserved. Gaining the rights African Americans wanted and needed has impacted society massively. If no one stood up to the Jim Crow Laws and the way African Americans were treated, the world would still probably be discriminating against them. This, just like all movements, has helped society grow and progress. African Americans deserved equal rights to white people, and they created a movement and fought for what they believed in. African Americans were were not allowed to go to the same school as white people and there were different protests from parents of children that would not be accepted into white schools. One of the biggest and known protests, the Montgomery bus protest, consisted of the African American men of Montgomery boycotting the city busses until they gained the ability to sit anywhere on the bus, instead of being immediately sent to the back to give seats up front to white people. Another creative form of protest that African Americans used were called freedom rides. Freedom rides were people who were fighting for civil rights riding interstate busses carrying signs of protest about the United States Supreme Court. The way white people treated African Americans was horrible, and many police officers and agents that are supposed to help people and enforce the law did not do anything to help African Americans.
