As a result of the abolishment of slavery in some states, there were many outcomes to the gain of freedom for African Americans. Due to the freedom of African Americans, there were many interferences that they were forced to endure. With the Laws that abolished slavery in some states, there were a few cases that African Americans challenged and sometimes won. One example of this would be the Dred Scott case. Dred Scott was an African American slave born in the slave-state of Virginia. There were copious slave states besides Virginia, such as Alabama and Missouri. Dred Scott’s case came about when he and his wife were rented as slaves in states where slavery was considered illegal, due to the Missouri Compromise. Racial Discrimination is defined as the prejudicial treatment of people based on their race. This is a topic that African Americans, and other minorities, are unfortunately still dealing with today. Many minorities were forced to deal with this form of hate their whole lives. No matter where blacks went, they would most likely be racially profiled and discriminated against. For example, a black person could walk into a store to buy something and they would be turned around or not served due to them being black. One example of Racial Discrimination would be Emmett Till. Emmett Till was a 14-year-old, African American boy who was taken from his home and lynched in Mississippi in 1955. He was falsely accused of whistling at a white woman in a store. This shows how Emmett was racially discriminated against because he was African American. There were much more activities African Americans were not allowed to do. African Americans did not get the same amount of education as whites did. There were also very few job opportunities for African Americans as well. If an African American did get fortuitous enough to get the same job opportunity as a white person, they would more than likely be separated from the whites. It was extremely rare for blacks and whites to be able to work in the same place without being discriminated against. Due to the discrimination of blacks, there were many African Americans who decided to fight against it. Many activists, as we know today, fought for our freedom, and some even lost their lives. People like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks had a big part in Desegregation. Without them, African Americans may not have been freed from Segregation as early as they did.
