Fun fact,the world's tallest roller coaster is Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great adventure in Jackson New Jersey at 465ft. Advanced technology that made roller coasters Taller/ steeper. Because of the higher stress load of steel and strength compared to wood, steel coasters can be made taller( Wes Bessette). Steel coasters can be made taller because they can take heavier trains and you need heavier trains for a taller coaster. Steel coasters can bend much farther than wood to be steeper. Steel and bent be bent and twisted to make them have a 90 or beyond vertical drop. While steel allowed the coaster to be taller and steeper, other advances allowed them to go upside down. Advanced technology that made roller coasters go upside down. Rides that go upside-down uses a special kind of loop called a teardrop loop.
