Fun fact, the world's tallest roller coaster is Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great adventure in Jackson New Jersey at 465ft. Advanced technology that made roller coasters Taller/ steeper. Because of the higher stress load of steel and strength compared to wood, steel coasters can be made taller( Wes Bessette). Steel coasters can be made taller because they can take heavier trains and you need heavier trains for a taller coaster. Steel coasters can bend much farther than wood to be steeper. Steel and bent be bent and twisted to make them have a 90 or beyond vertical drop. While steel allowed the coaster to be taller and steeper, other advances allowed them to go upside down. Advanced technology that made roller coasters go upside down. Rides that go upside-down uses a special kind of loop called a teardrop loop. The teardrop loop helps reduce the G-Forces because it is tight at the top but wider at the bottom (Sarah Griffiths). Upstop wheels are wheels that go below the track so they don't fly off the track. Side friction wheels help but in a different way by latching on the side of the track so the train doesn't fly sideways off the coaster. Even though …show more content…
LIMs or Linear induction motors are pretty much the same but LIMS use a lot more power (Admin). Another way to launch trains is with a hydraulic launch. A Hydraulic launch is when the train is latched onto a catch car which attaches to a cable which is attached to a winch drum. When the hydraulic fluid is pumped into the drum it spins extremely fast and pulls the cable, catch car, and trains across the track
