Before I started the Fall semester of UIC I had to take a placement test to see what courses I qualified to get into. I didn’t pass the English part of the test, so I had to take a course in the summer to be place into English 160. At first this course was intense because it was only two days a week and we had six weeks to cover everything that had to do with the basics of the English language. In that course I had to leave all my understandings of a basic paper and had to learn to how to write a college paper that will guarantee me a good grade. I had a lot of trouble in that course because I felt like I didn’t understand what the teacher was asking me for and what she wanted me to prove in the papers. I got to know my teacher more because I had to do a project about a faculty member and I decided to choose him. At first I thought he was a white man that was weird, yet he wasn't what I expected, he was a man that never met a black person till he went to college, he was a man that goof around in college and he was a man that didn’t know what career he wanted to do for the rest of his life. I related to him because I want to pursue in the medical field, but I’m not sure if I want to do it for the rest of my life. I can also relate to him about not seeing a black person before, I’ve seen them, but I’ve never talked to one because were I came from it was all Mexicans. I went to an elementary that was all Mexicans and I went to a high school that was all Mexicans so I can relate
