Nitrogen Experiment Report Nitrogen is an important factor of plant development. Our experiment tested what happened when the level of nitrogen the plant had was changed. We started with the following question: How would the amount of Nitrogen available to a plant change how it grows? This was tested by three jalapeños plants; one with correct levels, one with extra nitrogen, and one with less nitrogen. We monitored the plants every other day for a week, besides for the weekends.
Our hypothesis was if we lower the amount of Nitrogen available to a plant then the plant will not grow as well because it is deficient in Nitrogen. All of us predicted that the plant with less nitrogen would not grow as well as the other plants or would die. The plant with extra Nitrogen was predicted to grow taller and faster than the other plants. We predicted that the plant with correct levels of Nitrogen would grow normally at the average growth rate and have correct colors. We started by transplanting three jalapeño plants into separate pots. Two pots were plastic, while the last one was organic material. In the first pot, we put half a hand full of nitrogen fertilizer in the pot and mixed it around. The second pot was left alone, therefore, it had the correct level of nitrogen. Sawdust was added to the third pot to take out some of the nitrogen. Since the

We observed height, color, leaf count, and health appearance of the plant. On the first day of observations we noticed some changes. Our plant with correct levels was 5 inches tall with 6 green leaves. The plant that had the extra Nitrogen didn’t look too well, it was drooped over, wrinkled, and only stood only an inch tall. However, the plant with less Nitrogen was doing fine. It was standing tall, was a good green color, had 6 leaves, and stood 5 ⅛ inches tall. These results confused us because they were the opposite of what we thought they would
