The arrest of Richard Colvin Reid on December, 22nd, 2001 by U.S. federal Authorities defines the ideological context in which a terrorist can be defined as a covert military agent for Al Qaeda. Cowell’s (2001) article defines evidence of the arrest of Reid as a” man accused of trying to ignite explosives-packed sneakers on American Airlines flight 63 from Paris to Miami” (para.2). This unusual method in the weaponization of Reid’s shoes provides important insight into the covert style of warfare being used by a terrorist. In contrast to outward methods of warfare in the use of a gun, or other standard weapon of war, Reid chose to use a “shoe-bomb” in order to destroy a civilian passenger plane. In this manner, Reid had used a covert weapons through the guidance of a terrorist network, such as Al Qaeda, to plan a suicide bombing to destroy the lives of American citizens and an American commercial airliner.
Summary: The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore explores the journey of two men by the same name who grow up in similar neighborhoods, but end up with different endings. The book shares the stories of both men who highlight significant events in their life that led one to be a businessman, while the other a convict in prison for murder without the possibility of parole. When Moore discovers Wes’s story he begins to correspond with him and it is their correspondence that inspired this book. First of all, Part One explains the childhood of the two boys and how both had an absent father. However, Wes loses his father because of a virus that goes undetected by doctors, while the other does not have a father because he chose to leave his child.
Being a professional athlete in any sport is something that takes hard work and dedication. The National Basketball League is the home to hundreds of players that have come from high school, college, and even from across the world. In recent years, there has been a big debate on whether these players should go to college or not before going into the NBA. In the article, “The Case for Getting Schooled”, David Gardner says that all of these players should attend college before starting their careers in the National Basketball Association. Gardner’s claim that basketball players should first go to college is flawed because a player might be good enough already to go into the NBA right away, players will play with better talent in the NBA, and
The two Wes Moore boys have almost inconceivably nothing in common except their names. As the boys continue to mature their paths in life take two diverse directions. The reader begins to see how the; support of family and friends, who their role model is, and expectations set for them all play a role in forging the two different futures of the boys. The support of family and friends is essential to the growth and development of the two boys.
Gary Tillery uses copious amounts of researched information to back up his claims throughout the bibliography. He does this by being able to tie in very specific stories and quotes from drawn fine events. “Elvis’ earliest memory was of sitting in his mother’s lap during the church service… mimicked the chorus and followed the melody (Tillery pg. 8).” I agree that he has the information to support his affirmations also because of the detail he uses in his speech.

According to Piaget there are four stages of intelligence. They are as follows: the Sensorimotor stage from birth to 2 years of age. In this stage Piaget states that the child is able to objects and stimuli but lack an internal representation of the outside world. The Preoperational stage from ages two to seven in which the child is able to use language to communicate, they also have the ability to think in images and draw those images. The Concrete Operational stage from ages seven - eleven is where the child should be using logical reasoning and is able to think in multiple dimensions.
If you could have seen the end from the beginning, would you have chosen a different path? Two young boys virtually living the same early life, yet finding divergent outcomes is the crux of “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates” authored by Wes Moore. In addressing the circumstances that brought each Wes Moore to their destinies, we find a poignant message, “I guess it’s hard sometimes to distinguish between second chances and last chances” (Moore 67). Wes offers readers a glimpse of how both boys would weave their way through difficult sets of circumstances as one enters military school, attends college and becomes a Rhodes Scholar with a bright future ahead, and the other experiments with drugs, sells drugs, is a teenage father of two, and commits crimes of increasing intensity leading him into life in prison.
Policing the poor by Neil Websdale, mainly focuses on the “Power Control Wheel” describing the power black men have over women living in Nashville. Websdale argues the “Power Control Wheel” has been an explanation why domestic violence has occurred frequently among African American women and men. Websdale historically ties the domestic violence from women and their partners with the enslavements of African Americans and their white plantation owners explaining the “Power Control Wheel”. Websdale mentions how women continually to let the “Power Control Wheel” be overrun by men because of the fear of not being able to receive a stable income, illegally activities that are performed, satisfying drug addictions and the black kinship (132). According to Websdale, the Black Kinship system is a cultural legacy giving women a reason not to
Hello, I am Isabel Gardner and I deserve my freedom because of all the cruel and harsh treatments as well as . For starters I am the slave to the most ruthless human being on this planet. Also without me your revolt against Britain would have stopped dead due to the death of General Washington. Also, there are many documents that you yourselves have published talking about freedom and breaking away from your “master”.
When students cheerfully waited for the oncoming Thanksgiving break of the year, a man died quietly near the most bustling street on campus at a chilling night. Police officers discovered him in the next morning and reported that the man was Richard Turner, a 54-year-old male. Richard Turner didn’t sound familiar to me at all. However, as I scrolled down and saw the picture of him on my phone, I was completely stunned. I knew this man.
Today, people have the ability to experience everything life has to offer and treasure strong, supportive relationships—simultaneously. Perry Patetic in his passage argues that living in a mobile society causes people to lose close relationships that past generations did not. The author supports his claim by first providing general information about how mobility affects the world today. He continues by illustrating exactly how it affects people and their relationships. The author’s purpose is to make the reader think about the disadvantages of mobility so that they can change their view on the topic.
Theory Summary Nowadays, living in a modern world with the advanced technology, people are spacing away from each other. Thus, communication is one of the most important tools that bring people closer. Even though communication gives people opportunities to share experiences, define ourselves, understand others, and form relationships; communication can be challenging because it requires time and effort. In order to adapt and survive in nature, everyone changes, and grows through time. Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor describe this progression is onion theory because the model looks like an onion and involves superficial layers that need peel away in order to reach to intimate levels of communication in social penetration theory (McLean, 2012).
Disadvantages/weaknesses of Howard Gardner’s theory: 1. Doesn’t explain why some individuals are more intelligent than others. 2. Controversy over whether the seven specific types of intelligences are actually intelligences or whether they are abilities (such as musical, body-kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal).
(refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). All of them focus on the development of complex thinking skills. First at all, Piaget’s cognitive development theory is the most essential theory among others (Müller et al., 2009 and Scholnick et al., 1999 as cited in Lourenço, 2002, pp.281-295). This theory aims to explain the mechanisms and processes of children in understanding and discovering the world. There are 3 basic elements in theory of cognitive development which are schema, assimilation and accommodation.
