Types of Conflict in Huckleberry Finn In literature there are three types of conflicts in stories: man versus man, man versus nature, and man versus himself. Man versus man is a conflict between one sentient being and another sentient being. Man versus nature is a conflict between a sentient being and his environment and circumstances. Man versus himself is an internal conflict between a sentient being and his conscience. these kinds of conflicts are in Huckleberry Finn and impact the story in interesting ways. In chapter four, Huck’s father returns to the town. Huck’s dismay and fright when finding this out alone shows how much he fears his father.
