Playing guitar is a great way to relieve stress for me. I can get caught up in a song and forget about my worries. While playing I have gotten so caught up in the song that I pop a string. If a string pops on a guitar, it could still be played because there are five other strings. But without one of those strings, the chord is incomplete. Although music could still be made, something is missing. Like a string is to a guitar, so to is tone to Great American Literature. This book was written Antebellum by Mark Twain. Although it was written after the civil war, African Americans experienced a lot of discrimination. Huckleberry Finn is a young man with an abusive and alcoholic father. He fakes his death and leaves to sail down the Jackson river with Jim, a is a runaway slave. In Chapter 33, Huck says, “Human beings can be awful cruel to one another”. This was true then and always will be true. The tone for this is disheartening; it’s a very cynical quote. While this quote is is a bit depressing, it’s a big moment in the novel when Huck grows and changes and realizes even further that not all thing are good. Gump is a man with a mental disability. While this may set him back at times, in many circumstances it pushes him forward. He always tries his best to be an honest kind man. That makes him very successful. In one of the most famous quotes from the movie, Forrest says, “Mama always says life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what your gonna get.” Forrest is always sincere and you can see that clearly through his tone. While sometimes the “chocolate” we get isn’t so great, he also knows they can be great ones. He’s very honest with us and that’s something that makes this film “Great”. This film touches hearts and is humbling to the audience. People are cruel to Forrest and I we could all see some similarities in ourselves with those people.
