Allyson Wells With the rise of the internet, a vast amount of information was almost instantly available to us with the few strokes of the keyboard and clicks of a mouse. With the ability to have access to endless amounts of information, we have both made our lives easier as well as more difficult. Easily obtainable information can be incorrect. Easily altered or posted information, without fact checking, one can spread misinformation. The rise of social media sites has allowed people to connect in ways and with people never before available, it also has created a virtual reality type world where there is little to no accountability for words said or pictures shared. Now, all it takes to gain access information is internet access and a search topic. A few clicks of the keyboard and mouse and one has a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips. From an educational standpoint, the distinct advantage would be that one can search for anything they need. A disadvantage would be that the information might not be correct. With the ability to post and upload information, comes the possibility that the information is only partially correct, or not even correct at all. A personal bias, a misunderstanding, or just flat out incorrect information can find its way online for anyone to read and use, it is at that point that the person searching for information must fact check the information they are reading before accepting it as the …show more content…

The social media platforms have allowed people to become whomever they wish to be, one can create a persona or alter ego to act in ways that they otherwise would not. As one stares at a computer or cell phone screen, the distance and disconnect with them not being face to face with any particular person, has allowed them to take on any personal opinion they so choose. If one knows that there are those out there looking to incite problems or to create issues, it is fairly easy to avoid them. It all depends on how one chooses to use social
