After my interview with the human resources professional, I learned a significant amount of information on what it means to be an employee in the field of HR. There are many different positions offered in the field of HR, which involve many different job responsibilities. However, for all human resource positions, being passionate and loving people are key elements to being successful in this field of work. Loving people is a key element in any HR position. During my interview, Jenna was very friendly and helpful. She was very kind and down-to-earth, and I felt very comfortable talking to and interviewing her. I concluded that Jenna is what could be considered a “people person”. I made the general assumption that all HR professionals have to be good with people, and Jenna agreed. She stated that she would only recommend this career to others if they had a passion for people. She said that HR professionals have to deal with people at their absolute best and at their absolute worst, which can be challenging but also rewarding. A human resources employee has to be able to deal with and help people all day, every day. If someone who is not passionate about people attempted to complete this job, it would not be enjoyable for anyone. While I think it is important to have some sort of customer service skills in any career, it is a detrimental factor in an HR career. Furthermore, people skills extend farther than dealing with and helping people. Once again, Jenna only got into HR because of a director that inspired her. Without those interpersonal skills, Jenna may not have connected with her director as much as she did. It is important to establish rapport in the HR office since everyone is very busy dealing with stressful situations all day, so they need their fellow employees to have their backs. Jenna also emphasized that her favorite part of her job is the team that she works with and the projects they complete together. Without having a great team of people who get along, the job might not be as smooth or efficient. Teamwork is a necessary skill that an HR professional must have in order to be successful.
