At the end of the conclusion of the case, and after you heard all the evidence, we are confident that you will return a verdict of guilty on the three charges of failing to give all he could to give Tom Robinson his freedom.

The main characters aren’t the only ones who contribute to the innocent perspective of Maycomb. Dill, the best friend of both Scout and Jem uses his emotions and past experiences to relate to the hatred black people like Tom Robinson face on a daily basis. During the Tom Robinson trial, Dill gets upset over the way Tom is treated by Mr. Gilmer: “This was as much as I heard of Mr. Gilmer’s cross examination, because Jem made me take DIll out. For some reason DIll had started crying and couldn’t stop; quietly at first, then his sobs were heard by several people in the balcony” (Lee 265). Dill later tells us that he didn’t appreciate Mr. Gilmer’s attitude toward Tom Robinson.
People tend to believe that trial by jury is the best way to keep the trial completely fair to both parties involved. In some cases, though, it is the opposite of that. One of these cases is in To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In the trial, Tom Robinson, a black man, was accused of raping Mayella Ewell, the daughter of a white family. Tom’s attorney, Atticus, was able to prove that Tom was innocent, but the verdict was that Tom was guilty.

In his 1995 essay “The Trouble with Wilderness,” William Cronon declares that “the time has come to rethink wilderness” (69). From the practice of agriculture to masculine frontier fantasies, Cronon argues that Americans have historically defined wilderness as an “island,” separate from their polluted urban industrial homes (69). He traces the idea of wilderness throughout American history, asserting that the idea of untouched, pristine wilderness is a harmful fantasy. By idealizing wilderness from a distance, he argues that people justify the destruction of less sublime landscapes and aggravate environmental conflict.

Robert Browning did not have much of a religious view, or that we know of. His mother was a religious woman. Robert had asked his mother for Mr. Shelley’s atheistical poem Queen Mab when he was fourteen (Religious Views). He had frightened his mother when he had confirmed his mother’s worst fear. He had become just like Percy Bysshe Shelley, an atheist and a vegetarian.
Thesis Human life, according to Montaigne, does not fit a standard mode of operation, and people should be free to express their thoughts. Why it took so long to come to fruition could be contributed to the inconsistency Charles Trinkaus was so concerned with in his In Our Image and Likeness. What he was saying is that humanists failed to see the forest for the trees because they too were part of a world in which the unfair treatment of human beings was the norm. Humanists during the Renaissance were apt to expand upon the idea that human beings were worth something more than many dogmatic ideas of the 15th and 16th Century would normally condemn them to. Most people lived lives of quiet desperation during this time in history; common people, mostly serfs or slaves that worked long hours for low pay (if for any money at all) and died in the dirt, forgotten.
