Richard Connell once quoted, “There is no greater bore than perfection.” This exemplified perfection is something many people lust for, but can’t understand. Imperfections are what make people different from one another but, without imperfections, humans would be boring. Similarly, in Connell’s, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the antagonist, Zaroff, mentions being perfect is boring. As if he is referring to himself, he’s saying he’s a perfect hunter, but grows bored hunting animals, so he’s stepping up the game and starting to hunt humans instead.
The Contrasts Between “The Most Dangerous Game” and CSI Miami While CSI miami’s episode, “Hunting Grounds” is inspired by Richard Connell's famous short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” they are very unique because of how the storyline takes place differently. They both have many similarities such as having a murderer and a victim, but also many differences such as how they find the murderer and what happens to him later. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, Rainsford knew that Zaroff was a murderer because of the way he described his head collection and how he would play the game with shipwrecked sailors. Kenny and Frank rush ahead of Tub while hunting, and almost leave without him. Tub has to run to catch up with them, and pulls himself into the truck before it drives away. Rainsford discovers that Zaroff is also an intelligent hunter and is disgusted to discover that he plays a dangerous game in which he hunts humans that he catches on his island, Rainsford becomes his next participant. Rainsford and Zaroff have a lot of similar beliefs about hunting, social classes, and the feelings of their prey and they are both very intelligent hunters. However, Rainsford’s hunting knowledge causes Zaroff’s first loss in his game because Rainsford is the better hunter. Rainsford and Zaroff both showcase their love and knowledge for hunting in the text.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the main character Rainsford had gotten stranded on a dangerous island where Zaroff, a Russian Cossack General, hunted humans for sport. He feels that God put the weak on earth to give the strong pleasure, and up until it was his turn to be hunted, so did Rainsford. Earlier in the story Rainsford had stated, “The world is made up of two classes-- the hunters and the huntees.” And as harsh as it may sound, it is technically correct.
