The Hydrogen Bomb has the power to take out an entire nation. The Hydrogen Bomb uses the process of nuclear fusion. This means that instead of splitting an atom with a large nucleus, it fuses together (wiki.answers). This creates a very large amount of heat and radiation. Hydrogen isotopes must be fused together with very high temperatures and pressure which fuses them into helium. For a fusing to occur in a fission reaction must take place. The fission reaction has to take place before the fusion reaction can happen. The heated tamper and x-rays let out high temperatures and pressure along the fusion bomb, forcing fuel and initiates fission into the plutonium rod (wiki.answers). Once both of these steps take place the hydrogen bomb explodes causing mass destruction to …show more content…

Do not confuse fission with fusion, as these are two very different processes. During the process of fusion, mass is converted into energy. When all the energy is released it lets off massive amounts of pressure and heat (fusioned.gat). Fusion is commonly combined with deuterium and tritium, which are both forms of heavy hydrogen. Fusion cannot happen if the temperatures are not very high. Temperatures have to be one hundred million degrees which ionizes them (fusioned.gat). Fusion is a big part of the atomic structure because it deals with atoms bonding together. Fission Fission is the other part of making a hydrogen bomb explode, it is the process that has to happen before fusion. Fission is the process of splitting an atom in half with a neutron. In order to split an atom the nucleus has to be large. When an atom is split it releases massive amounts of energy. Fission splits an atom into to smaller identical atoms with a neutron. Fission, also being a part of the atomic structure, plays a big role because it changes the normalcy of a regular atom causing it to also release massive amounts of energy and pressure.
