Do you know who Malala Yousafzai is? She's a girl who demanded girls to have an education and was shot in the head by the Taliban at the age of 15 because of her innocent actions. Malala was immensely brave and even after she was shot she kept going, she even won a Nobel Peace Prize! At a very young age, Malala started going out and fighting for women's rights, with speeches and long talks. She wrote a book acknowledging all the shocking and drastic events which led up to her being a true inspiration to children worldwide. The central idea of her biography “I Am Malala” is that women and men should be treated equally, despite their differences. She let us know by giving us symbolic events that truly show this idea. Firstly, by showing us how …show more content…

For example, Fazlullah’s army and many others would harass women because they didn't succeed the ‘standards’ of the Taliban! However, you didn't see them doing this to a man. In my opinion, this is truly disgusting! According to chapter 14, “A Funny Kind Of Peace”, page 170, “A teenage girl wearing a burqa and red trousers was lying face down on the ground being flogged in broad daylight by a bearded man in a black turban” This proves that women aren't even cared for and they treat them horrifically. To add on, the explanation the Taliban gave was “She came out of her house with a man who was not her husband, so we had to punish her.” First of all, she's a teenage girl! And second of all that is not an excuse to beat her and almost kill her! To make matters worse, “one of the woman's relatives even volunteered to help hold her down.” That is truly horrific and not acceptable! Also, girls couldn't even get an education but boys could? That's unfair and bogus! For instance, in chapter 7, “The Mufti Who Tried To Close Our School”, page 90, it stated that a mufti (“an Islamic scholar and authority on Islamic law”) named Ghulamullah said to the owner of the school premises “Ziauddin is running a haram school in your building and bringing shame on the mohalla. These girls should be in purdah.” This is showing that people think that Malala’s …show more content…

Another example is that the Taliban’s actions added up to showing that women shouldn't be treated how they were, which was disgustingly and brutally. For instance, the Taliban started banning woman from going outside. Women weren't delighted at all, where they were excited to go to the mall and buy clothes, decorations, accessories, etc, for Eid. Malala and many other girls were depressed that they couldn't go out and have fun but they had to give in because if they did go out, there would be unpleasant consequences. In addition, the Taliban forced the girls to not go to school, by saying there would be consequences if they did go, they threatened them. Girls were devastated that they couldn't get an education but boys could. It was truly unfair! They should've been treated equally, not in this manner! Girls had little to no right and it wasn't okay at all! Also, the Taliban were hurting, torturing, and even killing people. Everywhere you look you saw news for dead people and broken buildings. According to chapter 14, “A Funny Kind Of Peace”, page 175, “My father wanted to stay. But the gunfire kept us awake most nights. Everyone was in a continuous state of anxiety. One night we were woken up by screaming.” This shows that the Taliban drove Malala and her family out of Swat because of their continuous killing, shootings, and bombs just
