Gotta Keep Dancin’ by Tim Hansel was a deep reading. Within the pages I found a guide to being self-assured in God. This self-assurance is counter cultural and difficult to replicate in our lives. Because of this I often questioned why I attempt, or do not try to overcome life. Life does not need to be overcome. We do not need to be secure, we need to understand that being secure in God is the only stable reality in a cosmos of instability. During my eleventh grade year of High school I sustained an ACL injury in my right knee. We believed the injury to be severe and a visit to the doctor’s office confirmed damage to my ACL. The world that involved my life collapsed, no sports for the rest of the year coupled with me losing my sense of purpose and usefulness in this life: felt like the end of life. The following months consisted of crutches and rehab. Not a single day without pain, not a single day without anger directed at God. The coping mechanism is consumerism, in the end no amount of money or possessions will provide stability. Similar to a person standing between two trees on a cable. The wind blows and no matter how many walls we surround ourselves with, the wind still shakes the cable. When my knee was injured I tried to surround myself with walls. The wind still shook the cable and I fell. At first, I was scared. Going against culture is the most difficult thing possible. I did not realize that without falling off of that cable, I possibly could have remained insecure for the rest of my
