On special occasions, you can find Guatemalans celebrating by eating a delicious dessert called Tres Leches Cake. Tres Leches Cake translates to “three milks cake” in English and is named after the main ingredients: three different types of milk. To make this dessert, you prepare a sponge cake using the usual flour, sugar, eggs, (etc.) and bake it in the oven. After it’s baked and cooled, you poke small holes into the cake and pour on top the mixture containing the evaporated milk, condensed milk, and whipped cream (the three milks). Once the cake has absorbed the milk mixture, spread on top some whipped cream and serve it.

This extreme drug has been illegal in the United States since 1918, but, in 1965, peyote was legalized for practice within Native American religious beliefs and practices for the NAC (Native American Church). Extremely vivid images, and loopy visuals is common when under the influence of peyote. In the new world when European immigrants arrived into the U.S., it was in belief that peyote was used for anti-Christian beliefs and was supposed to be the works of the devil.
The book Fast Food Nation was written by a man named Eric Schlosser. This book opens the eyes of many people and it makes them realize that fast food industry has abused our nation, not in a painful way but in a harmful way. Fast food in the 1900’s has effected America in many different ways. The fast food industry has gotten better since the mid 1900’s. However, it still has some harmful effects on America such as health problems, franchising, meat packaging/processing, and marketing/advertising.
Over the years in America food and how it is consumed has changed, and we seem to actually be eating more unhealthy despite advances in modern science and technology. In Michael Pollan’s book, “In Defense of Food”, Pollan talks about this idea, and how food itself has been replaced by the nutrients in them. Today’s development of food science has done more harm than good, and the food industry has become industrialized. People have to avoid the new “Western diet” and need to go back to the natural way of eating healthy foods. When I arrived at college, I completely changed my diet for good after just a single week in, as I had a realization I needed to eat healthier to transform my relationship with not only food, but with my body and mind.
