The television often displays abandonment as a colorful selfish action of a mother expressing love for the child. She puts the child in a basket lined with soft blankets and then the child is smiling or sleeping peacefully. Kisses the child places a note in the basket she then places the basket on the doorstep of someone who will welcome the child with an open heart. In reality, this is not the outcome. Babies are found dead, sick and suffering, if they are found at all. Their small lives have little chance to survive the elements of being exposed to a substantial risk physically or mental harm, known as abandonment. A mother does not have to physically leave the child to be considered as abandonment but it can be done so emotionally and mentally. It is done by removing herself from the child and ignoring the responsibilities that comes with the child. …show more content…

Not only does the child begin questioning its self-worth but will not feel good about itself and will have problems managing with people. A child doubting its self worth is one of the worst things that can happen to a child at a young age having not lived a long time to be suffering. A person with a history of abandonment may have difficulty relating with a partner at a later stage in life. One of the effects of bullying is that the targets own self-esteem lowers instead of increasing. With low self-esteem everything starts going down including grades, happiness, and the sense to live that leads to depression. Depression is one of the outcomes of low self-esteem. They no longer want to go outside, they get away from the people they are close, and lock themselves up inside their bedroom. It then develops to depression that causes self harm and even death. It is like a domino effect or chain reaction where the cumulative effect produced when the mother abandons the child to the events following the
