Helping and doing things for people is something I have always enjoyed, and I believe nursing combines these perfectly. I have always liked working with kids and for that reason, I want to be a Neonatal Nurse. A lot of people think that a Neonatal Nurse just has the responsibility of receiving the newborn and feeding it. Even though at times this might be true a Neonatal Nurse has other roles. A Nurse has to track the heartbeat of the babies, check breathing and make sure their respiratory system works.
I took all the sciences I could, eventually majoring in Biochemistry in college to understand the workings of the body. I always thought I wanted to be a pathologist. I was aware of pathology assistants but was unaware of what their job entailed. In my junior year of undergrad, I was fortunate enough to find out that my college worked with a teaching hospital, Montefiore Medical Center. Through them, I was able to obtain an internship in the Surgical
I am a twenty-three year old mother, full-time student and wife. I have come a long way since my high school years, from a period of inner conflict and lack of motivation to recently receiving an acceptance letter into a very competitive sonography program at the University of Texas School of Health Professions in Houston Texas. I have come to this program to start a career in the field I have always dreamed of being a part of, a dream that began when I was a child playing nurse. Although my interest in the medical field began with nursing, life has taken men through a path that lead me to sonography. Sonography caught my interest at sixteen when I needed a breast exam to diagnose whether I had breast cancer or not
My career goal is to become a diagnostic medical sonographer, or an ultrasound technician. Each day as an ultrasound technician will bring new surprises. In the morning a sonographer could be conducting an OB/GYN ultrasound, helping an excited first-time mom see her fetus developing in her belly. Then, then in the next procedure your trying to calm an old woman as she waits to see if her tumors have grown. The days of a medical sonographer are never dull but are challenging, fast-paced, and rewarding.
But before I realized that wasn’t for me, I looked into, after undergrad and medical school, becoming a neonatal physician and again the more I thought about it the less confident I was going that route. What I did know was that while I may not have wanted to work in that specific profession, I did want to work with children, families, women and girls, and the underprivileged. So after taking the
The career I chose is as an Anesthesiologist. I have been very interested in becoming an Anesthesiologist for about two years now. I am interested in this career because anesthesiologists are able to put people into a medically induced sleep for medical procedures. I also like that it is a very hands-on specialty. I want a job in this medical field because I want to be in the healthcare field and I think anesthesiology is fascinating.
OBGYN Ultrasound Technician How rewarding would it be to have the opportunity to get to experience a mother and father seeing their unborn child for the very first time? To get to be the person whom informs parents of the gender of their baby, which they have anxiously been waiting for. I don’t believe there could be a greater feeling in the world than being there and sharing that excitement that people anticipate about their entire lives. Getting to be a part of these moments is one of the main reasons why an OBGYN Ultrasound technician is my dream career. Personally, I love to make others happy and I love seeing others happy.
Years later, I was bored at home scrolling through the Netflix menu when I came across the documentary The Business of Being Born. It was all about prenatal care and the birthing process. I was entranced! And ever since that day, my career goal has been to become an Obstetrician and to open my own practice. However my career goals do not stop here.
My short-term goals are, looking forward into being admitted into a radiology technology program here at Los Angeles City College. Once I am officially admitted into the radiology program, along with completing the requirements of the program, I will be certified as a Radiologic Technologist. That will be qualified to start working in the medical field as a full scope radiologist. However, some of my long-term goals are to become certified in an advance imaging specialty and possibly work in a state of the art technology department in a hospital setting.
Since my desired major is in the medical field, Radiology, which is a practice that will continue to be used in the future, I’m confident in obtaining a job in that field of study when I graduate from college. With more jobs available for me, I will have the chance to choose which one that will benefit me most in the long run. I will be able to determine where I would like to live and work due to the demand of my career choices. Being a college graduate will help seeking employment less burdensome, due to the number of jobs available to me.
I would like to become a veterinarian. Many shorten this to vet. But, some people call them veterinary surgeons. I would like to be a veterinarian because I had a cat that got stuck in my dad’s truck fan blade. He had to be put down.
As a child, I knew I wanted to become a doctor. At the time, I did not know what kind of doctor although I knew I wanted to work with children. Growing up I thought becoming a Pediatrician was the right fit for me. I later realized that Obstetrician/Gynecology was the way to go. I love kids
Photography When you take a picture it can last a lifetime or two, and I find that really cool because a camera can capture that moment. When I was younger, my mom would always take pictures of me and my siblings and would put them in a scrapbook. I would always watch my mom scrapbook. I believe a career in photography is the best career for me because I like to capture moments, fun to look at the good parts of the past, and sharing your past with the present. Some people wonder why photography is important.
I did my clinical observation at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, Washington. I am currently a receptionist at Skyline, which made it easy for me to find a hospital that was willing to let me shadow their radiology department. I was lucky that I had worked with the techs in the radiology department before. Having that familiarity made me much more comfortable shadowing and asking questions. I took this job at Skyline specifically to learn more about a hospital environment and how hospitals run.
When asked what they want to be when they grow up, most children say astronaut, doctor, president, or veterinarian. I was one of those kids that replied “a veterinarian” when asked by others. Usually, when one gets older, that career goal changes into something different, but not for me. I did not know it then, but my dream of being a veterinarian would stick with me throughout my life, and influence the choices I make in order to reach that long-term goal. I come from a family that expresses an interminable love for animals.
