During the course of this past week and a half, I have been wearing the letter I chose to represent me. My results I received were very weak and almost unresponsive. But didn’t I wear it all day for a week? Yes, people tend to mind their own business while walking in-between classes.

Consequences of sin can vary, because hidden sin and exposed sin express themselves in different ways. Hidden sin can eat away at a person, while expressed sin rehabilitates a lost soul. In Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, two main characters, Dimmesdale and Hester, demonstrate their own dealings with sin. The two had committed adultery, but only Hester’s sin revealed itself to the community.
First off, the letter x is one of the coolest looking letters in the alphabet. It’s one of those letters that aren’t used very much but when it is used it protrudes out from the crowd. If I could just choose one letter I would want one that is rare and cool looking. Another cool thing about x is that it sounds cool, for instance look at the word xylophone, or extra, the x is the main point of the word. Unlike Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter I would have warn x on my body if I had to choose a letter.
Who knew a single letter could be a character! Normally a character is a living person, place or thing. However, in the Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne it is different. The Role Faces Play in Society Throughout human nature, people do not tell strangers as many details about themselves as they would a family member. Nathaniel Hawthorne examines these faces throughout the novel The Scarlet Letter. People that wear two faces will cause immense guilt for themself and negative consequences to others. Hawthorne conveys through Dimmesdale that the effects of having two masks leads to immense guilt.
He especially had some major transitions throughout the story. From an early point in the story, a reader could infer that he was a possibility of Pearls father. “The minister went up the steps… in the dark of midnight… while standing on the scaffold… an outcry that went pealing through the night… it is done!” (Hawthorne, 185) From that quote, you could tell that down inside Arthur Dimmesdale you could tell that something was bothering him.

If it was not for secrets, The Scarlet Letter would not be a story. Throughout Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book many characters are dealing with something they have to keep quiet. It may be a sin they have committed or something they know, but the way they deal with their secret determines how they feel about themselves. The two main secrets in The Scarlet Letter are who the father of Pearl is and who Hester Prynne’s husband was. As the secrets get revealed, many lives are changed drastically.
Guilt is the fact of having committed a specified or implied offense or crime. We all have quilt weather it be from something we did or just having a nervous conscious. Guild is something that all human beings have and or will have to deal with. Hawthorne did a good job describing different scenes with how guilt was affecting the character at a specific time. In The Scarlet Letter, guilt is found variously throughout the book.
Identity is something people tend to think of as consistent, however that is far from the case. The Oxford English dictionary states that the definition of identity is “ The characteristics determining who or what a person or thing is.” The allegorical novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding tackles the issue of identity while following young boys from the ages twelve and down as they struggle with remembering their identities when trapped on a deserted island. Identity is affected by the influence of society and how individuals influence society based on their identities. By looking at Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the Stanford Prison Experiment, and Sigmund Freud 's philosophical ideas, it becomes clear that identity is affected by society through peer pressure and social normalities.
In Chapters Fifteen and Sixteen, of The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester recognizes her true hatred of Chillingworth just before she finds Pearl, playing at the beach, and creating a green letter A on her own chest out of seaweed. Later, Hester goes to hopefully “run into” Dimmesdale in the forest to reveal to him the truth about Chillingworth’s identity. Pearl comes along, and as they wait, she curiously asks her mother about the Black Man. When Pearl sees Dimmesdale’s figure appear in the distance, she asks whether the approaching person is in fact the Black Man himself, which Hester rejects. What makes a person human is their identity. Their identity is what identifies them and sets them apart from others. One’s surface may be very similar to those around you, but if one looks at deeper factors that make up that identity, they will find those factors show a different meaning behind how they are, what they do, and how they look.
