Good Afternoon ladies and gentlemen, The chief task of adolescence is to confront the crisis of identity versus identity confusion so as to become a unique adult with a coherent sense of self and a valued role in society. Identity according to Erikson, resolve three major issues, the choice of an occupation, the adoption of values to live by and the development of a satisfying sexual identity. Adolescents who resolve the identity crisis satisfactorily develop the virtue of fidelity that is, sustained loyalty, faith or a sense of belonging to a loved one or friends. A failure to form a coherent sense of self can greatly delay reaching psychosocial adulthood.

It has been presented that the way of communication between parents and their adolescent child can influence their interactions and affect adolescent psychosocial health. Impacts include the ability for adolescents to communicate with others and how they do this, and the ability to treat others with respect. It has been established that authoritative parental practices that reflect warmth, cohesion, affection and support towards youth have been linked with a variety of positive outcomes. These positive outcomes include the ability of the adolescent to have trust within the family allowing an open communication between members, the ability to treat other with respect. This would affect the psychosocial development of the child through socializing with other children during high school and therefore if performing in further studies, possibly tafe, university or full time work. In this situation, future effects on this parenting style could possible lead to, greater interest further education and mastery goals. School nurses strive to make the adolescents perceive them as trusted adults, to whom they can tell their stories knowing that their confidence will be respected, and help find solutions to their serious problems.
