In the 21st Century, society has developed many different generations with defining skills and talents. As each age group grew they created their idea and plans for the future- laying the groundwork for the future children. The world today revolves around the development of technology and advancements in education. IGen has morphed into the potential name for people born in the 2000’s because of our “love” for technology. Baby Boomers and Gen X have created a persona of iGen drastically different from how we see ourselves. The preceding generations have similar beliefs about iGen- focused on technology with speedy connectivity, education, and having fun, however, on the other hand iGen believes that we focus on being the smartest(country and …show more content…
IGen thinks that to have a successful life, they must attain the highest education, no matter the cost. Today there are more students than ever attending colleges(Patten). Everyday more and more jobs want their employees to have specialized skills. Students believe that if they are the smartest person, valedictorian of their class, they will receive the most job opportunities. Therefore, many students will spend hours studying and working to get the best grade possible. Many iGens believes their lives revolve around having excellent grades. Although Gen X values education, they do not see it as life determining. Many Gen Xer’s still went to college to get a job, however they did not believe they had to have an “A” on everything, or that getting a “bad grade” would ruin their future. Most parents of the students today “place [a] greater value on work-life balance” rather than the grades of individual school assignments(Generational Differences in the Classroom). By doing this, students of iGen place the focus on grades by themselves because their parents, in Gen X or late Baby Boomers, prefer a balance in life. Parents in Gen X, or Baby Boomers, see that focusing on both a career and family, and not placing too much importance on one helps create a happy life. All generations want to grow up and have a fulfilling life, however people see this happening in different ways. The older generations such as the Baby Boomers and Gen X saw their future as having children and being happy. While they did believe an excellent job would make them happy, they wanted to put their family first. The ability to value family has allowed much of iGen to grow up with close parents. Children and parents have much closer relationships than previous generations, more parents are involved in their children’s lives. Many of the
