One of the issues the United States face is illegal immigration. According to Dr. Monty, an English professor at Lawson State Community College, as of 2012 there are over 11 million immigrants in the United States that are illegal. He also stated that, some people say that illegal immigration benefits the US economy through additional tax revenue, expansion of the low-cost labor pool, and increased money in circulation. They contend that immigrants bring good values, have motivations consistent with the American dream, perform jobs that Americans won’t take, and that opposition to immigration stems from racism. According to solutions.herriatage.org, the Department of Homeland Security and Congress should explore a variety of solutions to the multiple threats faced at the border. The threats border security faces are drug smuggling and illegal migration. Illegal immigrants coming across the border and human trafficking are examples of illegal migration. It also announced from 1990 to 2007 the number of illegal immigrants started at 3.5 million. (Whitehouse) Pewresearch.org showed that Mexicans make up about half of all unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. They also announced that California, Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois account for 60 percent of illegal immigrants in the U.S. (Pewresearch) about 7 percent of K-12 students had at least one unauthorized immigrant parent in 2012, stated Pewresearch.org. 79 percent were born in the U.S in Nevada. the government needs to enforce immigration laws. Obama has not been enforcing immigration rules according to solutions.heritage.org. The administration abandoned “Social Security No-Match,” which notified employers who hired workers whose personal information did not match Social Security records and informed them of their legal obligations. By doing this they weaken the U.S. plans of eliminating illegal immigration. It also brings the idea that illegal immigrants that can get over the boarder have a very good chance of finding work and not being deported. One of the best things the U.S. can do is to enforce the rules they already have in place for illegal immigration. (Solutions.Heritage) There has been a bill that was just passed by House Judiciary Committee to strengthen interior forces. (numberusa) There are many acts being introduced for strengthening our interior forces. The “Legal Workforce Act” to ensure jobs are preserved for Americans and legal workers. This bill requires all U.S. employers to use E-Verify, a web-based system that checks the Social Security numbers of newly hired employees against Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security records to help ensure that they are genuinely eligible to work in the U.S. (Juidicary.House). The “Protection of Children Act of 2015” ensure unaccompanied alien minors who make the dangerous journey to the United States are safely returned home.
