Immigration continues to be a major issue in the United States. It is such a popular topic that it has been exploited during presidential campaigns. Over two million undocumented immigrants were deported during Obama’s era, while President Trump has promised to deport up to three million within a hundred days of his inauguration. This topic attracts so much attention because it has a significant impact on the economy of the country, and affects the American citizens. There were over eleven million undocumented immigrants in 2014, which is three times the number in the early nineties. Over 700,000 immigrants are entering the United States annually. Approximately half sneak through the border, especially the US-Mexican border; another 45% enter through a legal entry point, for example, the airport or a recognized crossing point at the border, where they go through inspection (Pew Hispanic Centre, p. 1). However, they end up staying long after the expiry of their visas. Although this number has decreased from 2007, the number of illegal immigrants is still quite high. Curbing undocumented immigrants in America continue to be a concern for the government with efforts to deport them increasing by the day. During President Obama’s, for instance, more illegal immigrants were deported in his first term than what President Bush did in two terms. The trend continued with President Trump deporting over a million immigrants within several days of the start of his administration. President Trump has also promised to build a wall between the US-Mexico border in an attempt to prevent slipping of Mexicans into America
