Immigrants When I see this photo, not only do I see a mother and her daughter being comforted by a man, I see a mother wanting a better life for her and her daughter by migrating to the United States. Unfortunately, their dream has come to a halt. The man in the photo seems to be wearing his border patrol uniform so I am assuming she has been caught trying to find a new life for her family. It is heartbreaking to see this photo because the mother is crying and usually when I hear ‘mother’ I tend to believe they are strong, determined, happy, optimistic, and immortal but in all honesty they are struggling to keep us happy. Furthermore, stereotyping is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image and idea of a particular type of person or thing. It is used to categorize a group, in particular a group that one might not understand a certain type of people. Furthermore they classify and categorize this group of people based on race, religion, ethnicity, culture etc. to be fixated on a certain idea. This type of thinking is wrong because you are prejudging someone. Nobody wants to be labeled as something they are not, It is like using someone 's past to predict the future and that is something you can 't do because people change. Lastly having stereotypes adds on to racial profiling because the cops also have stereotypical ideas. Moreover, variety of stories is shared by personal experiences, people sharing their story individually. A single story according to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is a limited viewpoint. Instead of seeing other cultures and people as possessing multiple diverse experiences, single stories reduce certain cultures and people into a simple stereotype. Single stories should be replaced by multiple overlapping stories considering many people are different and some of these single stories are just unacceptable.
