Living in a nation that doesn’t fully accept a specific culture or ethnic group can lead to alienation, racism, stereotypes and other biases; in America it seems as though large portions of Americans are afraid of immigration. The fear of economic downfall is strong when in actuality immigrants help the flow of the economy by filling jobs most Americans wouldn’t and don’t want to do. Immigration brings over many new cultural ideas from agricultural techniques to the foods enjoyed on a daily basis, most of these small multicultural integrations are overlooked when discussing what immigration does for America as a nation. Immigrants and refugees that come to America have to drop everything and learn a whole new set of ways, in order to assimilate into the American culture, they need to learn English and get a job. Natives lost land and a whole language died in the process of immigration and it will take years before it is a language spoken on a regular basis. Although immigrants themselves lose a lot through the transition they bring a lot here to America, immigration offers a lot to the economy. Filling the jobs that most Americans overlook, bringing new foods, clothing trends, cultural beliefs, and languages. All these things help America grow as a nation and allow the current growing population to be more cultured and open minded, making better and more competitive job applicants. A lot is lost in immigration but a lot is also gained, not just for the nation and economy but refugees are now safe and given an opportunity to obtain “The American Dream”. As more immigrants and refugees or old cultures make their way over to America and contribute more and more to the American culture then the less alienated and stereotyped they will hopefully
