Purpose Statement: The purpose of this research is to examine the perceptions educators have on the effectiveness of Common Core State Standards(CCSS) on the college readiness of students.
Justification:
CCSS was first published in 2010 as the new educational reform, by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers, designed to provide a standard curriculum across states that “contained the core knowledge students need to be college and career ready” (Conley, 2014, p. 2). CCSS currently has forty-three of fifty states participating in the curriculum. Full implementation of CCSS began in the 2013-2014 school year. By the 2014-2015 school year, CCSS was fully implemented in all participating states. In 2013 “76% of teachers backed the Common Core, but the portion in favor has now plummeted to 46%” (Henderson, 2015, p. 10) according to a survey completed by the EdNext poll.
