Purpose Statement: The purpose of this research is to examine the perceptions educators have on the effectiveness of Common Core State Standards(CCSS) on the college readiness of students.
Justification:
CCSS was first published in 2010 as the new educational reform, by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers, designed to provide a standard curriculum across states that “contained the core knowledge students need to be college and career ready” (Conley, 2014, p. 2). CCSS currently has forty-three of fifty states participating in the curriculum. Full implementation of CCSS began in the 2013-2014 school year. By the 2014-2015 school year, CCSS was fully implemented in all participating states. The implementation of CCSS has been the topic of much controversy among politicians, educators, and the public. …show more content…

In 2013 “76% of teachers backed the Common Core, but the portion in favor has now plummeted to 46%” (Henderson, 2015, p. 10) according to a survey completed by the EdNext poll. Supporters believe CCSS provides equity to education as all students will be provided instruction based on the same curriculum, and the pedagogy will still be at the discretion of the teacher. “Another advantage is that the CCSS will be almost ubiquitous across the nation, creating increased opportunities for collaboration” (Liebtag, 2013, p.
