In 1998 the Bragdon v. Abbott became known after Abbott was refused dental service by dentist Bragdon. She was refused service because she carried HIV. Bragdon offered his service free of charge at a hospital instead of doing it at his dentistry. Due to discrimination, Abbott won the case. Since HIV limits individuals in various ways, the court ruled that the HIV infection would be considered a disability under the ADA (“Bragdon v. Abbott”, n.d.).

Urbanization, or the growth of cities, erupted during the Industrial Revolution. Cities were a place of work, innovation, and technology. Over the course of fifty years (1850-1900) more and more people moved to the cities, which caused more and more problems in them. With these problems came solutions, and those solutions led to change. These changes could be good like movements to get cleaner water or having plumbing.
Development of an area can easily affect the society of that area. The landscape influences a society. Things like airports, roads, economic status can also change society. Atlanta has been largely impacted by its airport and its economic status. Atlanta has one of the largest sex trafficking cities, and child sex trafficking is a large problem in Atlanta.
By 1900, that number grew to 1 in 3. By 1920, more people lived in the city than in the country. The impetus for this demographic shift is multifaceted, but the main driver was technological innovation which displaced small farmers and forced them to search for work in the city. One of the negative consequences of urbanization was increased pollution. Along with this came decreased sanitation.
American Urbanization started like a wildfire and it spread so rapidly that facilities and institutions in society could not keep up. From 1850 to 1900 America completely changed from its agricultural state into a new industry based society. The four paramount changes that occured during America’s urbanization period were new immigration, the build up of cities (skyscrapers and mass transit), living conditions, and boss rule and the rise of mass consumption. Even though the changes during urbanization did not come easily due to immense diversity, they still paved the way to modern day America.

Urbanization may be driven by local or global economic and social changes, and most of the time is the product of industrialization. As urban areas grow the population shifts from rural to urban areas, which is an example of how society adapts to change. The industrial revolution is the best example of this transformation to urban life, people wanted to upgrade their standard of living. This had both good and bad outcomes, the good was that it increased jobs and a bad outcome was that the life for the low class wasn’t that great. Most people were working for long hours for very little money to survive.
The social problems that urbanization and industrialized in the late 19th century created was slums. “Forty-two men and women in a room not more than twelve feet square, and in the corner on a heap of dirty straw lay a woman with a newborn babe” (Related Document 1, pg. 275). Immigrants were living in an overcrowded tenement and having to pay high rent. They lack access to clean water for drinking, garbage and sewage system. Most of the people who live in the slums became the victim of crime and diseases.
Cities improve due to innovation, but humans residing in them may not. The Industrial Revolution was a period in time where new inventions helped labor become less taxing and more efficient in the South. On the other hand, the North developed urban cities, which attracted many people. Urban cities had become the epitome of civilization: ease of life and wealth was present, but not available to everyone. To elaborate, these urban cities provided job opportunities to women.
There is a positive relationship between urbanization and education school enrolment at both primary and secondary level increases with urbanization. While enrolment in primary schools is less than 50% in regions with an urban population share less than 20%,

As they were made to resettle in a distant place located at the periphery of the city, many people got disengaged from their previous occupations. They are still searching for suitable employment or entrepreneurship opportunities.
A city is a good place to continue the further education and to find a suitable job. A city can provide government facilities to its people which makes easy to sustain the life and to perform the task. In addition, the city may be regarded as a relatively permanent concentration of population, together with its diverse habitations, social arrangements, and supporting activities. Cities might differ in cultural aspects and from other types of human settlement and association. Today I am comparing and contrasting my hometown, Kathmandu and the city I am living in, Colorado.
