Chinua Achebe once said, “People from different parts of the world can respond to the same story if it says something to them about their own history and their own experience.” People always think of stuff from past experience and what actually happened to them and they take that and can tell their story about what really happened. Like he also stated, “There is no story that is not true…” The late 1800’s are often called Age of Imperialism (Vontz, “Imperialism”). “The nineteenth century was a period of profound and even revolutionary changes in the political geography of Africa, characterized by the demise of old African Kingdoms and empires and their reconfiguration into different political entities.” (Vontz, “Imperialism”). In Africa, they had revolutionary changes in political geography. These changes were due to the fact that the Europeans had come and taken over African societies. “It is quite clear that most African societies fought fiercely and bravely to retain control over their countries and societies against European imperialist designs and military invasions.” (Vontz, “Imperialism”). Africa had faced many things with the Europeans such as imperial aggression, diplomatic pressures, military invasions, eventual conquest and colonization. Africa, on the other hand, did not allow this to just go down like this. They put up multiple forms of resistance so that they would not colonize Africa. “It is quite clear that most African societies fought fiercely and bravely to retain control over their countries and societies against European imperialist designs and military invasions.” (Iweriebor, “The Colonization of Africa”).
