Tittle Zoe VanLeeuwen October 24th 1910 Triangle Factory Searching these past few weeks on problems found in the Triangle Factory has been horrifying. The stuff I found uncovered that working in this factory is dangerous. It is time people actually learn the brutal conditions these people face. It needs to stop. One problem that stood out to me was the lack of fire safety prevention.
The possibility of causing an explosion is so high that Laskas was forbidden from bringing her tape recorder down into the mines where any coal was exposed or any methane was leaking. Laskas states that you’re constantly aware of the “confinement, the lack of light, the very real worry about the roof caving in or the air supply shutting off or something blowing up” (Laskas 19). These coal miners risk the possibility of something malfunctioning, acting up, and ending their lives completely just so us Americans can turn on our TVs and hair dryers every day. Further into the novel, there is Traffic, the chapter regarding air traffic controllers.
Another reason why the Industrial Revolution had such a negative impact of society was the dangerous working conditions in all the factories. Working was not only treacherous for children, but for everyone employed on the factories. ”Industrial growth brought with it a host of environmental pollution problems” (Document 3). As the Industrial Revolution was propelling along, fossil fuels such as coal were used to power the factories. Even though this was marvelous that the factories were getting power, people were being exposed to toxic fumes for about 14 hours a day and sometimes more.
The risk of electrical hazard will increase if combustible materials are used and the protection method is to install fire protection equipment, such as the water spray system. The other hazard of the electrical hazard is the high power lines. Since there are a large number of high electricity machines (generators) that are used in the power station, the risk of electric shock should be noticed. Workers should wear insulating clothes when operate electrical parts and electricity protector should be
● The hazards and dangers of working in the mines resulted in the miners striking for more money, shorter hours and improved working conditions. ● The hazards and dangers included roof falls, explosions, mine fires and underground flooding. Another serious safety hazard
It’s clear that no one tried at all to sustain a healthy environment. The sawmill in the background looks like it’s putting out everything you wouldn’t want to breathe in. The sawmill is certainly having a very negative impact on the environment. Based on the outside looks of the sawmill, it can be inferred that the inside working conditions of the factory are just as
This boosted our economy and gave people more job opportunities. But the increase of steel also increased child labor, long working hours, and poverty. It also led to more pollution. In document five, it is showing that factories are polluting the environment. Pollution decreases air and water quality, leaving a negative impact on plants, animals, and humans as well.
Furthermore, in order to grow fiscally, it was best for corporations to avoid paying for or adhering to safety precautions. For example, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of New York City in March 25, 1911, was a fire in which one hundred forty-six people died. The massive death count came from the lack of security precautions. For the company to keep a maximum amount of efficiency, workers wouldn’t be allowed breaks. To enforce this no-breaks rules, most doors in the building were locked, which trapped and killed most workers during the fire.
Thousands of people die a year and innocent people are harmed due to this action. Even if the accidents are big or small, it
Mott Haven which is 1.181 mi² have been primarily a residential neighborhood in the southwestern section of the Bronx borough in New York City. Zip codes include 10451, 10454, and 10455. This site includes various things such as provisioning services, regulating services, cultural services, and supporting services. This site is also full of water sources, natural gases, and very biodiverse which are being polluted by human activities. Pollution can be physical chemical or biological and can affect water air or soil.
I. Introduction The Industrial Revolution, one of the most significant events in world history, began in Britain. The industrial development was at a very high pace, so was the growth of cities in England. This rapid urban development brought many problems to people’s daily lives.
1. Introduction Air pollutin is a public health concern and it has been since the discovery of fire. Incidents and episodes of air pollution have been recorded throughout the history. Air pollution is divided into two, it is the indoor air pollution and the outdoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution is produced in households or at offices by pollutants such as tobacco smoke, household products or pesticides.
My Vision for America My vision for the future America is less air pollution. Air pollution needs to be reduced because it kills 7 million or more people a year globally, 80 percent of them from heart disease and stroke. Also, Air pollution destroys and damages 5 billion dollars’ worth a year of crops and trees.
In this case, Shriram Industries was allowed to operate in a designated air pollution control area. Oleum Gas leaked accidentally from the factory. Though the company was in compliance with the limits permissible air pollution laws at that time, the Supreme Court of India slapped the company with liability for the accidental leakage of gas. Hence, Courts of India uphold the “polluter pays principle” for damages caused on account of polluting activities whereby the polluting parties have to pay out civil liabilities for environmental
There are many problems that threatens society and one problem in particular, air pollution is a problem that threatens everyone. Air pollution is the contamination of air with pollutants that are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment. It began to be a problem when humans discovered the uses of fire and then the amount of air pollution exponentially grew after the industrial revolution, and is still a problem even today. The largest causes of air pollution are from human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and gas emissions from manufacturing plants. There are ways that ordinary people can help contribute to prevent air pollution and or else face the dangerous consequences of polluted air.
