Introduction Nurses as a professional, we are obligated to deliver the best care to patients. Every interventions that we performed are expected to be based on evidences and underpinned by rationales. In recent years, the idea of evidence-based practice is prevalent (G). To promote the development of evidence-based practice, we have to address the barriers and facilitators (B). In the following, I am going to give a description on evidence-based practice. Then, I will discuss the barriers that hinder and the facilitators that promote the development of evidence-based practice in the nursing field. Nurses may considered it as ‘theoretical’ and the changing process for practice is complex (C). They are reluctant to change because they think their professional expertise might be overridden (C). Undeniably, there are nurses in ward that are having abundant amount of clinical experiences. Therefore, their clinical decisions will mainly be guided by their own personal experiences but rarely on scientific research (C). In regard to the deficit of knowledge towards evidence-based practice, nurses reported that the provision of training programme related to research aspect would be a facilitator for the development of evidence-based practice (F). On the other hand, if the training programme is successful, nurses’ negative perceptions towards evidence-based practice may also change. The development for evidence-based practice will possibly be facilitated. Educational level is another facilitator (A). Nurses with academic degree is considered as an important facilitator. These nurses are possibly having an earlier exposure to the research aspect than the non-degree holder. They may be more capable in finding literatures and be more familiarize with the process of evidence-based practice. In the ward, they can give advices for the other nurses and also advocate them to implement change. As a result, they can be a facilitator for the development of evidence-based
