Parental Leave. Maternity Rights can be defined as a period of approved absence for a female employee granted for the purpose of giving birth and taking care infant children. Maternity leave may last anywhere form several weeks to a period of months depending on the organization, and may be paid or unpaid depending on policies. A certain amount of maternity leave may also be legally mandated for some nations, states, or municipalities whereas Paternity Leave may be defined as a period of paid absence from work, in the UK currently two weeks, to which a man is legally entitled immediately after the birth of his child. Every female employee is entitled to abstain from work during terms of four weeks each before or after confinement. Maternity benefits shall be given to the female employee in each confinement. However, there are a few conditions to be fulfilled in order to allow the female employee to claim for the maternity benefit. Such conditions have been provided as follows: a) The female employee must have worked for the employer for not less than 180 days within the period of one year immediately preceding the date of the notice required; or b) The female employee must have worked for the employer for not less than 90 days within the period of six calendar months immediately preceding the date of notice required. The female employee must give notice to the employer before her confinement in which she expects to be confined within one month from the date of such notice.
