COMPANY OVERVIEW
Urban Sky Images is a photography studio and creative house owned and operated by Carolyn Steingard. The company specializes in photographing, Nature, Landscape and Street Photography. The company is located in New Westminster British Columbia and sells handmade cards and printed images. Urban Sky Images sells work at local craft markets, and smaller galleries.
The company is looking to expand into Food and Event Photography (excluding weddings). Customers tend to be middle class and people who have an interest in the arts.

Our assistant photographer and bookkeeper have been working with the company since 2011, while the gallery and photo processing managers and print technician have been with us since 2014; however our front desk reception position has been a revolving door. Our bookkeeper will is about to go on maternity leave and the company needs to finds a replacement for a 12 month contract.
In the past 2 years we have had to hire and train two people for this position and now we are in the process of training a third person. Our goal is to hire an office manager who can oversee the bookkeeper and reception positions and help us come with ideas on how to keep our front desk staff. This person is very vital to our organization and is the first point of contact for our customers.
Our goal is to expand and hire more photographers to assist with the growing demand of event and food photography. We want to take on more small business and corporate clients as there is a huge demand in this area. Urban Sky Images also wants provide more services for companies who require portraits and images for brochures, websites, blogs and advertising. The positions that are usually posted internally are for assistant photographers. We promote creativity amongst our organization and if an employee shows an interest in developing their photographic skills, we will allow them to work alongside the owner who will train them on various lighting techniques and photo processing software.
When a position is posted internally, a job description will be posted in the employee lunchroom or an e-mail will be distributed among staff asking for a resume and portfolio to be submitted to the owner. Since we are a very small company, there are limitations to posting internally as there is not a wide range of candidates to choose from or the employee may not have certain qualifications. For example an employee may be an exceptional food photographer but may lack experience in portraiture or landscape photography. That is not to say that they cannot be trained but depending on needs and amount of work, we may need extra portrait photographers and will therefore need to hire externally or contract work
