Important Creation Myths I think there are many important motifs in all of the different creation myths that we studied this semester. There were many different motifs that I could have used but I picked the ones that I felt were most important to the creation of Earth and life. One of the motifs I picked was about how the gods worked so hard and struggled to create Humans and Earth as we know it today. Another motif I chose was humans being killed off by the gods. The third motif I picked was about the creation of Earth and how the creators did it.

There were many different reasons that humans were killed off. One reason could have been that the humans disobeyed their god. Another reason could have been that the gods created an evil form of humans. Sometimes gods messed up on creating humans but still let them live. In the Yoruban creation myth Obtala was drinking when he was creating humans and he accidentally made them disabled. Instead of killing off all of the disabled humans he learned to love them just as much as the other humans. Prometheus and Epimetheus from the Greek creation myth created monsters on accident and had to banish them to the underworld with Hades. They kept doing this until they successfully created human beings that were not evil. In some myths the gods sent a flood to Earth to wash out and kill all of the beings they didn’t want. This was seen in many creation myths including Genesis. Sometimes when creating humans the gods had to give the humans a breath of life to make them come alive. This was also seen in many of the creation
