We 've all heard the curious stories about celebrities that decided to write some interesting fiction and facts about themselves on Wikipedia. Some of the celebrities even went overboard. They systematically edited all the rotten stuff out of biographies that were written about them by other Wikipedia writers. Does it help their cause, reputation, or popularity, to take such dramatic steps? Well, according to Wikipedia neutrality is the key to writing successfully on the site. Certainly, it is difficult to remain neutral writing an autobiography. Just say no to writing about yourself on Wikipedia, unless you like disregarding their policies.

Certainly, it is almost impossible to remain neutral, if the subject is yours truly. Those that write about themselves tend to get caught up in the emotional experience and wish to create a positive biography that they would not mind sharing with friends, family, and a potential employer. Often, a positive biography rarely works. It is the controversial mistakes that lead to popular articles. Just think about writing a perfectly flowery article about your background. Now, think about the future. All your little indiscretions will probably show up in that article. Soon, writers will take steps to record all your scandalous mistakes in those Wikipedia articles. It just might change your mind. If the writer followed the Wikipedia guidelines and added verifiable resources about negative information concerning your background, you are in deep trouble. Forget about pleading innocent. People will be able to Google an article with negative information about you on Wikipedia for months or years.
