Do you feel you make a good impression on people ? The way people dress and act says alot about them , In the “ Skin I’m In” by Sharon Flake , every character might have similar attitudes but they all dress differently and it shows their true colors. The way people carry themselves shows how much they care about how they come across people, our status more times not is defined by what we look like, how we dress, and where we come from. For example, your status is your everyday life, In The Skin I’m In the english teacher Miss. Saunders is rich compared to the other people in McClenton and so she gets more opportunities. In chapter 3, page 13 Maleeka says everybody sees her as “ skinny, poor black Maleeka.” However, status is a major part in the novel, but status is also a major part in the real world. In addition to Maleeka being affected by status in the Sharon Flake novel, I too have been judged in my life. When I started kindergarten was picked on by a girl who was 5 times my size. Since then I’ve been called names because of my glasses or my size, some of the names made me feel uncomfortable in my body. Now that I’m old enough to understand why people do what they do, I’ve learned to accept the fact that I have four eyes and I’m not shaped like other girls. From being personally categorized, status continues to play a role in the upper classmen. Status sometimes separates people because said person may have more or less than another. The rich people people with five or more houses all over the place or their three private jets and private islands has almost everything handed to them.
