The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain: Advances in technology, transportation, and communication. The Industrial Revolution was a transition to new manufacturing processes that spread throughout Europe and North America. Many technological and agricultural progresses were made during this time. The Industrial Revolution originally started in Great Britain in the late 1700s. Many factors led to Great Britain being the birth of the Industrial Revolution. According to the staff of History.com, “For one, it had great deposits of coal and iron ore, which proved essential for industrialization.” (History.com) The revolution started a shift in machinery, living conditions, mass productions and factories. During this revolution in Great Britain, textile and iron industries made a big impact on the world which improved living conditions, technology, transportation, and communication. Besides the big textile improvements such as the cotton gin, an inventor named James Watt invented something that was major during the Industrial Revolution and helped us today. “…the first steam engine was invented by James Watt…” (Pearson Education) The steam engine was used to pump water from deep workings. The steam engine had a great impact on history because it allowed Europeans to explore lands they did not have access to. The steam engine also made the factories locations changed because they would always be built by rivers, but now that didn’t matter since the steam engine was invented. Before the Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain, large operations wouldn’t have been possible…but now since we have passed that era, America’s transportation, and communication have improved.
