If you love a good mystery, there is one very well-known author who might interest you. He is the famous father of detective fiction, the master of horror, Edgar Allan Poe. He wrote the very first modern detective story. Edgar Allan Poe was famous for his dark, mysterious stories as well as the characters, plots, and themes in his writings. Much of his work is the product of influence from events that took place in his life. Most of the very effective events were unfortunate for him, so his stories are greatly inspired by his life. He is perhaps the most widely credited horror story-writer of all time. Edgar Allan Poe paved the path for his dark, thriller stories into the literature arena, which were in close relation to his early life, his personal life, and his death. The famous writer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19th, 1809. His mother was Elizabeth Hopkins Poe, who was a very professional actress in her time. His father was a law school student named David Poe, who abruptly fell in love with Elizabeth after witnessing one of her performances. He loved her so much that he left behind his education of law and quickly dropped out of law school to become an actor and marry Elizabeth. Luckily for their growing family who had to constantly travel from city to city, Elizabeth was a very talented and popular actress, so they were able to make a living off of her career, and hers only, due to David’s lack of talent for theater. As David began to argue frequently with his wife, he drank heavily, and for reasons unknown, he abandoned his family.
