The famous writer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19th, 1809. His mother was Elizabeth Hopkins Poe, who was a very professional actress in her time. His father was a law school student named David Poe, who abruptly fell in love with Elizabeth after witnessing one of her performances. He loved her so much that he left behind his education of law and quickly dropped out of law school to become an actor and marry Elizabeth. Luckily for their growing family who had to constantly travel from city to city, Elizabeth was a very talented and popular actress, so they were able to make a living off of her career, and hers only, due to David’s lack of talent for theater. As David began to argue frequently with his wife, he drank heavily, and for reasons unknown, he abandoned his family.
