1. Information about Art Movement
OP art is a form of abstract art that gives illusion through movements of a unique pattern plus color. These patterns and colors are the one that create illusion in the eye, for example patterns can be overlapped and conflicted with each other for a optical taste in the artwork and colors can also be use to create tones and contrast like black and white which is used in various pieces of OP art. For example the painting Zebra by victor, which was drawn before the term OP art is even announce to the world. Only from 1964 and after this type of illusionistic abstract art was called OP art. Geometric shapes are mainly used in OP art therefore is non-representational. Within OP art there is many type of it. One of them is perspective OP art; perspective op art has a central vanishing point that creates a illusion over the space showing depth and space in the painting. Another additional piece that some OP artists use is color theory, color theory states that color change depending on the color beside them creating an illusion. For example green color looks lighter on white background rather than black background. Another example is complementary colors they appear to be more intense when they are closer. Another effect is when neutral color creates new color beside gray and the echo continues. Lastly cool colors like blue, green and purple draws and sink back into the painting while warm colors pop out of the surface creating the illusion in the space. To recap there are 3 color theories, background, complementary colors and warm and cold colors and colors beside grey. Another theme added in OP art is the eye. Op artists use science to study how the brain and the eye work together to create illusions. By studying how the size, shape, color, brightness and motion. Intro-On this interesting art movement there is one mysterious artist his name is Julian Stanczak. He was the artist that made the term OP art first appeared in Times magazine in 1964. He is an OP artist who creates his illusions based on the color theory. Color theory is when color change depending on the color beside them, creating an illusion.
Julian was born in Borownica, Poland in 1928. Then he was in Siberia concentration where he lost the use of his right arm. Eight year later in 1948 in Uganda refugee camp he learnt his private art lesson. Then he went to Borought polytechnic institute in London then studying in United States at 1950 ,he revived a BFA at Cleveland institute of Art. By 1956 he got MFA at Yale university. After 7 year he married Barbara Meerphol an artist. During this time he was teaching art until 1995 when he retired,after 38 years of teaching.
