Friedensreich Hundertwasser: adored artist of Austria

Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928 – 2000) was an Austrian artist, who worked in painting, graphics, tapestry, architecture, and had an ecological commitment to the world around him.
Objective: Create an art piece in the style of Friedensreich Hundertwasser making certain to incorporate his unique artistic style, types of line; favored colors, and media.

Artistic Style: Hundertwasser invented a modern style of painting called Transautomatism.
Transautomatism is a kind of surrealism (art that is illogical, incomprehensible) focusing on the viewer's fantasy rather than an objective interpretation.

A major part of the effect of his artwork and architecture is color.
To emphasize movement Hundertwasser placed complementary colors next to one another.
Complementary colors are colors positioned directly opposite each other in the color wheel – green & red; orange & blue; yellow & purple
Media: Hundertwasser created using mixed media.
Mixed media is the use of a variety of media in an entertainment or work of art.
Hundertwasser used gold and silver, which he pasted onto his paintings in a thin foil. He used oil, tempera and watercolor paints all in one painting to achieve a contrasting effect between the matte and radiant parts of the picture.
