In the feature article “All Guts, No Glory”, I agree with the author Molly M. Ginty, that women participating in combat. If I was in the military some of the things that might affect me would be probably because of my gender. First, women would not be put into battle because people think women cannot handle the work or bloodshed. They think women are better off bring a nurse for helping men in battle if they get injured. Second, they think women in combat would be a distraction.
Diane Andrews Henningfeld edited Should Women Be Allowed to Serve in Combat in the U.S Armed Forces, the purpose for writing this book gave the reader reasons why women should be in the army and how they should get what they deserve for playing a part in the war. In the opening lines it states “Women have been fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with men in the United States Army since the Republic’s beginnings undisputable historic facts.” This sentence tells us that the author is really bias toward women in the army. In introducing the book, Diane Henningfeld tells of us about how women should be in the U.S Army.
In fact, World War II was a “women’s war.” Brave women used their skill, and their immense patriotism and dedication to their families to become valuable assets to the Allies. Women’s roles in society changed considerably during World War II. They played a significant role in jobs both on and off the front lines. Women took on roles outside of the home in addition to their “traditional roles” such as watching the children and cleaning the house.
What are some expectations that people have over women in the military? Some examples may include that they are strong and independent soldiers, have good courtship with each other, nursery, motherly figures, objects as well as supporters of the men. These assumptions and expectations of what are the women status, roles, duties, and part of the military are half of the whole concept of how social and cultural norms of war in war, but there are still more that society doesn't know. The struggles, reality, and issues that women in both the past and present wars face throughout their deployment and life after while being looked upon by the society but yet they changed the traditional views for women.
Women’s involvement in the military was a massive contribution during the war, because it was the first time that women were allowed to join the military forces in roles besides nursing. But women in factories played an even bigger role than women who helped served in the war. During WWII, women served in the military; they worked for the government, entered or reentered the workforce, and contributed to the war as volunteers in their societies. For the first time women were working and performing jobs that were for men.
Women’s efforts in the war created a pathway for women fighting for their equal rights and opened new job opportunities for them. For example one of the new opportunities presented to women was being able to serve in the armed forces. According to Ducksters,“ It was Eleanor Roosevelt and General George Marshall who eventually got the WAC approved. Later, women troops were such good soldiers that some leaders suggested that women should be drafted.” Women were so good at their jobs that they were introduced to new life-changing opportunities and found new economic and social independence.
Women on the Homefront During World War II The World War 11 period is a very interesting time in women's history in the United States because for the first time, women were actually being encouraged to take jobs that were usually held by men and therefore needed a more "masculine attitude" . Traditional female gender roles were challenged during this time period . Not only were some of these women simply serving the country during its need in wartime, but they were trying to pursue their own passions and interests . The government and media's heavy use of propaganda such as Rosie the Riveter was used in order to manipulate and influence women into joining the workforce and taking on more "masculine" jobs, simply because the men were away at war.

Looking back at the early 1930’s, there are many people today who would criticize the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain with his policy of appeasement towards the Natzi leader, Adolf Hitler. Appeasement is defined as “the policy of acceding to the demands of a potentially hostile nation in the hope of maintaining peace.” However, historians now know that peace was never an option for the German leader. His invasion of the Rhineland and Austria was only the beginning; Hitler had his eyes set on Poland, Russia and eventually the world. Chamberlain has been heavily criticized for simply handing over the Sudetenland because this action showed that Hitler had the upper hand.
While researching about women during the war I found that many women saw the war as an opportunity to gain more rights and respect in the United States. Should women be allowed in combat? Women should be able to serve in combat if men can. I will prove that women are equal to men and they have the strength just like men. People say one of the main reasons they don’t want women in combat, is Physicality. Physicality is a main component in combat, you have to have it to be in it.
Being a girl is hard, women have been the second best since the beginning of time, women weren’t allowed to do a man's job in the military and it’s time that further evolves into women and men doing all of the same jobs. Although, some may argue that keeping women protected from the harsh realities of war is the reasonable thing to do and those people have a valid argument when they say women aren’t emotionally stable enough to fight on the front lines, or that women aren’t strong enough to serve; this applies to some women not all. Women have proven themselves capable of so much more than the standard that is set for them in the military: overcoming their physical differences and putting the excuses to rest. What i think about Women in combat is that it should be allowed. If women can fight or do anything of the source then they should be allowed in the military. Because what if a women wanted to serve in the military and then all the sudden they cant. Some men say that women shouldn’t be in the military because they don't know what they are doing and they have no experience and they could get hurt easier.
Women have proven themselves as being competent and qualified for tasks and jobs in the military even under stressful or dangerous conditions. Men are allowed to choose combat and women should also be given this choice. Society will not suffer because not all women desire to fight in war-like conditions or deployments. Recently, there are numerous women who serve as Generals and Admirals. They consist of all components of the forces including serving in combat units and onboard ships.
