When beginning this research paper I did not expect to find much information about women in war, mainly because during this time period it was common knowledge that women were not allowed to participate in a lot of things, especially war-related activities. I was definitely surprised when I learned that women GREATLY impacted the war. They may not have been able to fight, but I truly think that the outcome of the war would have been extremely different if it weren’t for women. They participated in ways that you wouldn’t expect to have an actual impact, but it really did. I think that World War One boosted a lot of change in women and what they could do. While researching about women during the war I found that many women saw the war as an opportunity to gain more rights and respect in the United States. Since most of the men were away fighting in the war, women had to pick up on everything that they couldn’t do at home, taking over their jobs in not only agriculture but also manufacturing. Some women even served as medical help in the war, which was a huge step up for women. One source I …show more content…

They were able to take jobs that would normally only be allowed for men, and their style changed too. They didn’t have to wear the traditional expected women’s wear anymore. The war made them even more eager to fight for equality. I also learned that African American women were fighting for equality too. They were allowed better jobs and some even became nurses. One of the sources I found said that African American women were huge supporters of the soldiers because so many of their family members had been drafted into the war, so they wanted to do everything they could to help.
