Born on March 2, 1977 in Exeter, Devon, England, Christopher Anthony John Martin which is now known as “Chris Martin” is one of the members of the famous band Coldplay, which main genre is alternative rock. He has become one of UK’s most distinctive and popular singer and songwriter. Martin developed his love for music at a young age and formed his first band and called themselves “The Rocking Honkies.” He was inspired by artists such as A-Ha, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Smiths, U2 and Peter Gabriel. In 1996 while going to University College in London, he met Johnny Buckland and decided to form another band with the chosen name “Pectoralz”, but later on renamed the band to Starfish and then ended up switching the name of the band to Coldplay as …show more content…

Besides being a singer and a guitar player, Martin is also known for being pianist and an activist as well. He is an acknowledged supporter of the human rights organization Amnesty International. He campaigned for fair trade in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and contributed to Band Aid 20 to aid Sudanese refugees in Darfur. Chris and his band have also supported environmental causes, as an example; they asked fans who wish to write them letters to instead send emails because it’s more beneficial to the environment. They have united with companies such as Future Forest to plant 10 thousand mango trees in India as well because the trees provides fruit for trade and also local consumption and will eventually soak up the carbon dioxide, preventing global warming. The band has decided to get away from corporate endorsements and instead they choose to promote causes that address world poverty or environmental issues rather than lending their music to commercials that are vague and that have no real good influence on people. Coldplay feels the need to help and make a change in the world. They help the world in better ways and make people be aware of the issues that are happening all around
