Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Our world today is full of distraction with video games, televisions, computers, and cell phones. Many people believe that ADHD does not exist because of the distractration in our world. ADHD is also known as, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (Cheyette, Johnson, Cheyette 7). ADHD is a medical disorder that makes it very difficult to pay attention and have self control (www.kidshealth.org), ADHD is a disease that can be treated; however, it cannot be cured (Cheyette, Johnson, Cheyette pg 9). This disorder is very common, but more specifically, what is ADHD, what causes ADHD, and how do people know if they have ADHD?
ADHD, is a medical disorder that makes paying attention, or remaining calm extremely difficult (Cheyette, Johnson, Cheyette 7). ADHD is one of the most common disorders people inherit. Any age person can have ADHD, most adults just do not know that they have ADHD, most adults do not know they have ADHD because they do not want to take the time to get tested. If a parent has ADHD their children have a fifty-fifty chance of getting it (Phelan 44). A person will most likely not have ADHD if someone in the family does not already have ADHD. Symptoms of ADHD are usually seen in children that are ages three-twelve (www.mayoclinic.org). Symptoms that can be seen are having trouble paying attention, not listening when someone is speaking, procrastinating, and being forgetful in what one is supposed to do (Cheyette, Johnson, Cheyette 13).More males than females have ADHD, but females can still have ADHD. When males have ADHD they are usually more hyperactive than females are when they have ADHD (www.mayoclinic.org). ADHD can be treated by medication for both females and males to prevent some of the hyperactiveness and help with concentration
